Chasing the Wind

Caution is a pause
within morning’s misty silence
as a deer gathers strength
within the lamp of his inheritance
others share this habitat
and danger equals momentum
as he launches hoofed feet
a race from coyotes as
deathly shadows in the forest
the escape continues across
clear-cuttings
down ancient trails
muddying cool streams
and during a pause disappears.
Hunters tested by this majestic foe
bested by a noble Prince.

Wonderful poem, you brought it to life with your
words. Such a magestic creature.
