The Cold

is not gentle
on my frame this
day. It challenges the
clothes I wear
and chills me
with surrounding
breath --

sharing winter’s
slow advance.

Snow arrives in the pit
of nightfall
blossoms
upon the landscape

treed elms and streams
and logger trails
provided
with a sustaining sheet --.

Winter has declared
its path across the land.

I can't complain though. My wife and I moved to Truro, Nova Scotia 26 years ago, and we love it here. During winter, there used to be two feet of snow on our front lawn which lasted several months, not now, it melts within the week. Many changes in the weather are now dramatic.
