lay alone and teasing
asphalt driveway
a backdrop of white on black
yet this meager offering
a few sprints away
captures his attention
a rustle of feathers
not one to miss the lure
of treats
a huge crow begins chanting
its raucous call not
so pleasant but messages
resonate from tree to
yonder tree
seeking its mate also
searching for today’s snack
answers with satisfaction
soon together
descending in hunger
and bliss.
