soldier casualties
10,000 that first day.

Finally, a victory march with
General De Gaulle in Paris
women crowding streets
kisses and flowers
a hunger in their joy

then it continues -- bombings
air battles, tanks
men fierce in their pride
Manfried Line, a contour of
death and prideful
revulsion.

At last V-E Day. Hurry up my
darlings, just one more kiss.
