Feet Stepping

What steps I see
on this sand of beach
a print by feet
that lead me astray.
Did a fine one press
often along this place
where a westerly wind
kissed his brow and
crusted feet dared onto
a litter of clam shells?
Did a pause during his
stride cause wonder at
sky allowing artifacts
familiar on ocean’s path?
Or did he wander aimless
arriving at water’s edge
a dip among the splash
returning tide anxious to
share treasures from fish
boats flush with success?
Now he lays down upon
a dune where windy chance
departs this scene taking
him high above the play
and he does wonder yes
wonders about all the pain.
