A Generational Journey

During my cowboy years
Tom Mix and Roy Rogers were heroes
for our copycat gang with cap-guns
and “Hi Ho Silver!” commands.
It was proper conversation
for kids hurrying to save friends
from desperadoes, protecting towns
as we boldly fought for
goodness, riding
high on our imaginations--
today’s villains are layered
in TV programming
and hard core violence, children
thumbing high tech games
leaving police and lawyers to
arm-wrestle all those bad guys.
