in the flat
of your shoe during
the 1940’s & 50’s
meant poverty
was a regular visitor
and something
crowds of friends
were anxious to avoid.
When such a horror
arrived we sat with shoes
flat on the school
floor shame unseen
glue not an
option - that’s how
tight money was.
As we grew older
into life we worked hard
to gain newer shoes.
