as shadows release
their overnight cocoon

mist dismissed by
sun’s early yolk.

Squirrels scurry, anxious
for breakfast
as crows shriek
from lofty spruces

pastel clouds dress in
mushroom shapes
highlighting water below.

A loon’s calling equals
fulfillment.
