I Get It

TV is a messenger, too
often conveys hurtful thoughts
today’s reality--a story from
South of Timbuktu,
a Dogon man sits on weathered rocks
waiting for celebrations to begin
his Mask Dance a prayer,
protection from vengeance
of killed animals. He welcomes
rain upon parched plains.
My coffee is a short route to my
lips. From a soft sofa I glance
at the comforts in my home,
a bowl of grapes await and one
click of the monitor hides me
from the world that man
has to survive in.
