how refreshing
it felt
to be ten in 1952
to wrestle
with friends – play
tag and fire
cap gun noisemakers
much to the chagrin
of our
doting parents.
And to think
that soon I would
rise to the rank
of a Boy Scout from
Cubs thus gaining
status as a maturing boy.
We also enjoyed
riding on bikes
hearing the gravel
make way
for thin rubber tires
and at times
going into a spin
and spilling blood
from bruised
hands – burying
the pain.
Yes indeed - a true test
of manhood. Oh for more
of those restless days.
