Paddles pause at
sun’s Autumn setting,
anxious heartbeats

my wife and I
inhale the silence,
the beauty

coloured reflections
from gold to
orange patches,
from Nature's Book of
menus.

Without my lady
images are fleeting

we are one carried along
on October wings

our canoe, a glider
of love’s expanse in
racy flight.
