This is a Historical fiction for Young Readers aged 8-12, with approximately 14,250 words of text.
It takes place one day in the life of John Jr (Johnny) Trenholm(e), during the summer of his twelfth year. And depicts a way of life and concerns for a farming village in the Cape Chignecto area, of Nova Scotia in 1774.
This barefoot boy, on his daily chore, heads to the shores of Northumberland Strait to purchase some mackerel for breakfast. And during his trip ponders vivid events already taking place in his young life.
The story is a precious memory placed in a diary written by John Jr. who is in the last years of his life. Oh, but what a day that was!
