A Lake for All Times

Viewed from sunset’s breath, a
quilt of fire as mosquitoes
skitter in random flight
dashing themselves as pinpricks
against the lake’s surface--
The surrounding forest
is a welcoming mat for visitors,
our pup tent solitary among
familiar silhouettes
where bullfrogs burp, loons
lament and coyotes howl
as servings within Nature’s menu.
Owls hoot, deer call loved ones
and rabbits escape into balls of fur
in a land alive with symphony.
