Man in the Window

sees all
people hurrying
scurrying to work
and the rain that falls.

Early morning feast of sun
a day on the run --
children off to school

garbage pick-up while
others snooze
the sound of his back up
warning shrill
to an older pair of ears
still hearing well
after all these years.

Got to wake up grandma
lingering in bed
call grandson later
after breakfast
and remind him not to grow
so quickly --

‘cause grandpa wants to be
the man in the window
a while longer yet.
