The Mountain
By Richard L. Provencher

The Mountain
salutes a landscape
with grandeur
rugged
slopes of rock
sediment & trees-
beneath its surface
a gurgle of water
created
an only path
in a descending
swagger
becoming
a large pool
where brook trout
discovered a neat retreat.
Saw two deer lapping
at water’s edge
sun escaping the horizon
& thoughts of supper
called me home.

You took me to a place of
You took me to a place of such beauty with this poem Richard. Loved that last line, it's always good to get home in the end.

I like the images you conjure
I like the images you conjure in such a simplistic fashion. Beautiful, Richard.

So often you have given water
So often you have given water a personality, I love "swagger" in this poem?
Also agree with Jenny, the last part is wonderful, not only for the beautiful image (so simple, as Paul says) but also how you unite deer with people, but then end on the cosiness of the thought of home, out of the wide wild

Nicely traced down from
Nicely traced down from moiutain grandeur with the stream to the deer quenching their thirst, Richard, and a down-to-earth reminder of comfort and warmth and food to return to. Rhiannon
