A Natural Matter

Nature smoothes from day to twilight
with one more theme to play –
its sun spoons streaming
bright across the bay
a golden flavour
tasteful flow
coming to
tap-dance upon a tip of wooded shore.
From silhouette’s shade
feral eyes glow
pausing with wonder
grace for lack of movement –
eyes shine upon the view.
For now the nocturnal chase
is held at bay
an owl holding on
anxious for the hunt
coyotes staring – voices in check
absorbing the awesome sight
and a rabbit skulks
in the grass
thankful for respite from
sharp teeth and claws.
Before turning to wildness ways
an awe exhales
from inside their breasts.
