A Natural Scene

From his boulder-white

site a seagull views

his royal domain

stares with far-seeing eyes

reflecting an ocean’s

ribbon of crests

favoured by windy huffs.

As guardian of his flock

the gull stretches a restless

wing and signals them  

to capture the sky

as lobster boats saddle up

and soon on their way.

A chorus of shouting voices

chase fishermen into

the swells -- children & wives

thumping across the pier

with everyone

hoping today’s catch

will be worthy of boasting.
