New Scents
By Richard L. Provencher

- 563 reads
from wild flowers in English
pastures, as
ancestral footprints
arriving upon
Northumberland’s shore,
travelers entering
a new land, Canada
an inheritance--
from Yorkshire they came, on
ships of distant passion
sails unfurled, adults eager
for change, children
wishing to escape ocean swells
and thrusting from horizon’s
shore, homes awaited
for those eager souls, now buried
within Nova Scotian soil.
