From his apartment window
he can see--
two crows huge on a stripe
of choicest limb
neighbour’s blinds not yet
unmasked
young spruce preparing
for winter’s charm
curb needs replacing after
twenty years of tear
cars surviving as bodies
in rusty distress
and Fall leaves clumped
in wetness again.
An old man’s morning sight
aware and bleeding life.

Really enjoyed this, Richard. It reminded me of a scene from Hitchcock's 'Rear Window', though somewhat more picturesque!
'young spruce preparing
for winter’s charm'
A magical two lines here!
As Stan has said: you have a great eye for the worldly details we so often miss, and an apt ability to portray them in stark beauty. Tomorrow morning I am sure I will look out the window, remember this poem, and see the world through different eyes.
Cheers,
Steve.
