Old Time Wagon Ruts

overcame a hilly
climb, deep in the mud
of ancient days -- creating
history not a thought
to occupy minds,
left early this misty
morning seeking space
to grow kids
and till a new farm.
Miles away beside a lake
discovered an old dug
well among items
scattered in disarray
where someone lost faith
with the land,
yet living here was
worth a risk of memories
for years to come,
implements of worth
scattered about --
brave settlers arriving
before my time.
