awakens with a start

places warm toes

on cold floor planks

thinks – a new foster home.

He’s brought nothing

but trouble to all the others

yet kind folks these are

even cheerful

for a grump like him. Maybe

they deserve a chance.

Thanks R, for the comments. There are so many children in care these days, and some never get adopted, such a shame.
