OUR NOVA SCOTIA poem

Our Nova Scotia
The gentle cadence of
a chickadee
and multi-coloured Lupins
in growing bunches
compete with cattails
fuzzy tops peeking aside
roadways
streams gurgle where
cautious trout are shadows
alert for worms tossed
by fishermen.
Lines of spruce wind
as a bolt of sash around
hills its kilted green
of tree-belt
blinking stars dance high
thoughtful specks
sprinkled above rocky cliffs.
Quiet streets provide
a welcome mat
of lobster-supper signs
where stories
are taller in the telling.
Homes and farms painted
green yellow purple
a collage of treats
home spun memories.
Our flag corner-wise on
white like a plunging prow
accepting ocean’s blue
in historical passage.
