Overcome the Moment

After I close the curtain
childhood sounds are masked
a life of noise hidden away
can’t see the cherry tree either
the one that launched a fund
drive for Mrs. Baker
needing a wheel chair
fancy kind that runs on battery.
Peeking from curtain’s edge
other sights massage my view
neighbour kid bouncing his
basketball expects
to be a player I ask?
but his height may disturb the
flow of best intentions.
Dog’s gone and a cat arrives
cute little thing silver with
grey-flecks and someone
watching it all happen
peeking from behind a curtain. .
