Paper, a Piece of
By Richard L. Provencher

I happened to navigate
my usual path
along the sidewalk
downtown to mercantile
opportunities this fine
morning, where weather’s
perfection enticed
me into this delightful
foray, as well as
a need for exercise too.
Oh-oh, what is that I
perceive across my view?
A balled-up sheaf of paper
diminished by muscle
scrunched to a mini-ball
of refuse, now across
my solitude, path of
tranquility and perfection.
Decision should come forth
with this imperfection.
Should I retrace my steps
or continue life’s
journey as if nothing
occurred? Various thoughts
threaten to sway my way.
Perhaps I should
simply punt it away or
better yet pick up
the offending signature.
As I bend with agitation
on my mind, I hear
a whoosh of wind take
an interest in my
uncomfortable pose
and sweeps away
that offending trash into
blue sky disappearing
into worlds beyond.
I continue on my journey.
