A Poem or Two
I’m in a love with a dream.
Sloppy pants and farmer boots.
Got to wear socks on a day
such as this.
* * *
When mosquitoes bite, it does
not make me happy
some take a swig of gin
I soak myself in deet.
* * *
When the wild heart is still
when the dawn comes like a
whispering shadow, when the sky
is ablaze with the promise of summer
I come alive in the dance
in the glory of the daffodils
in the loon’s melodic cry
in the red embers of a sleeping sky.
And I live. I live.
* * *
I pray for those workers that I
may overcome the teasings of this
world, the glitter and the self-
destruction through booze
and drugs
and depression. Give strength to
those who serve other masters—who serve
self-aggrandisement, who seek
untruths where there is stability, who
seek chaos among your splendour
this I pray, for all within
your Kingdom of Glory.
