We’re voyeurs from across
Baie Verte
watching Nova Scotia’s evening
shore. Lights blinking
from Pugwash to North Port.
Port Elgin fishermen
alive with seaworthy tales
joining the menu
on our supper table
crops kids taxes and
of course
lobster catches in
bragging conversation:
“250 traps tarred last week
eleven fishing boats still
carry on the tradition…”
further thoughts
escape men hardened from
long years in their
heritage at sea.
Children listen. Millers
parading in flutters
against the window pane.
