Port Hood, Cape Breton
Clouds are marauders
of darkness, snaring waves
through windy-driven whitecaps
as intrusions against the shoreline.
Returning from ocean’s turmoil,
a sleek fishing boat hoists
its catch, a 647 lb tuna;
lobster, mackerel, and codfish
awaiting their turn
families wrapped in cheers
crowd along the dock
sharing space with
prepared lobster traps.
Oh, for a chance to race
the wind in that “Lady Shelby”
boat and bring home
my very own bragging catch.
