Dockside is the smell
of herring-bait
fishing boats disgorging
wood-slatted traps
pier-stacked lobsters
wrestling for a little space
Pictou’s shore a bedlam
of harbour activity.
Later, frisky wind tattooing
its evening might, flimsy cabin
a moustache on ocean's lip
one tired fisherman
captured by dreaming
work undone, nets to repair
buoys need painting
yard in disarray, a cluster
of lobster pots.
