Road Guardian
He’s official in his red helmet
and frayed rubber boots
mustard on the shirt
bulging belly straining
his leather belt
arm monitoring in
slow motion
swagger in the stance
swivels a dusty STOP sign.
Proud of his job
waited a long time for
this opportunity
besides
he needs the cash.
Highway construction
is a hubbub of dumpsters
noisy Cats
and impatient tourists.
