During the year
of ’54 households
felt the sting of less food
after months
of income losses.
A strike meant everything
was at a standstill
in town-life and
business locations.
Us kids had a plan –
trap rabbits and share
the meat -- heady ideals
for a handful of
12 year olds helping
a family’s food supply and we
did trap the little fellas.
For the first time in a while
meat visited the meagre
menu on many tables
among our friends. And
not soon enough
the drain of a six-month
strike ended.
