On the Run

Left home
the other day
couldn’t take anymore
heard it all
from mom n dad
the fighting and boozing
expense of raising
kids.

Put out his thumb
early Tuesday night
the first ride
taking him forty miles
from what used to be home
now the cops
are looking
parents worried
the children’s aid worker
busy phoning around
asking

if you see this kid
tall for his age
only thirteen
a nice kid
call me.
