The Sea Coughs

The Sea Coughs
up sand and salt--
at times leftover debris
from ships
ahoy long times ago.
An ocean roils
and twists on destiny’s
day -- many lost
their way
and shuddered
fearfully so
upon Nova Scotian
shores.
Careful young sailors
with lives so proud
of the land your
daddy and grand daddy
did roam.
Be watchful for these
waters can steal your soul.

Hi Richard! Long time! How are you?
Yes. Agreed, about the sea and the shuddering. It's enough when ploughing through big seas, but the thought of striking rocks in that wildness. Makes me shudder. A warning down the generations. Has a nice authentic feel.

Hi Richard. Tried that myself
Hi Richard. Tried that myself. Came to naught. Reminds me of all the great musicians playing in shop doorways around the world.
There are some good precedents: "The Old Man And The Sea", "The Cruel Sea" and many more, I'm sure. "Sea" has its own literary nuance in this situation, I think. The title works well for me. It's good to see you back. Love to you and yours. Kevin

The sea, so beguiling yet so
The sea, so beguiling yet so dangerous (bit like some of us women)
Enjoyed this one, the sea and the beach being a love of mine.

Hi Richard,
Hi Richard,
It's interesting how the sea can conjure up the imagination to write poetry. I think you've summed up perfectly how dangerous it can be, but how wild and free also. I like the idea of the sea coughing up sand, salt and left over debris from ships, very poetic.
Jenny.
