On This Side of Heaven

troubled ones are constant
in fears and oppression
seeking truth through
the battles
of ill-conceived materialism

the glitter --
crinkle of new bills
and the roar of an engine.

While on the other side
comes a peace
knowing someone really cares
who loves us --

even though
our names are like stripes
across His back.
