Slash
Hunger devours him
frightening in its intensity
day’s journey long
the wilderness an extension of
paw prints.
The hunter returned empty
rabbit trails and deer
unable to accommodate his thirst
for flesh
now the pain returns
energy ebbing
coils himself into a heaving ball
and dies
amongst ferns and within
the domain
of his inheritance.
