Summer Wind

A canoe was an
enjoyable feast
in my younger days –
the rush of current
arm extended forward
paddle piercing
arm muscle eager
for the thrill
of man vs nature
wind pushing hard
j-strokes easily
driving forward
eager for the match.
And I return to those
days in memory –
grunt and growl as
the fiberglass leaped
forward---its hull
noisily smacked
tested by that wind
of summer.
