As a Thief

It comes as a thief in daylight
with sliver and wounds
a typhoon of dangerous intent
and havoc with its windy
breath --
it does not dribble across the
land
but whooshes its might in delight.
This is its domain---leaves
fleeing amid flight
buildings crumble and windows
break
neat rows of treetops quivering
in fright --
birds escaping
animals fleeing
people screaming
and it’s a King of destiny
a power within its own right.
