When the Fishermen are Gone

A wooden hull
scratches roughly
against the dock
slap of water
slings the
shore
skin of mirror upon
the lake
distant hills against the sky.
And in the cottage
a mom and dad
are resting
children no longer here
all grown up into
careers and faraway places.
They miss the boat.
