When I was
a child I made wishes: to be a cowboy
to jump into the saddle like
Hopalong Cassidy or Roy Rogers
chase bad guys rope
them into submission and ride
proudly into town mom
waiting with supper.
Now I am older and overweight
barely able to lift my foot into
any stirrup. My new idea of the Wild
West is traveling the roadway in a
half-ton cows rolling by and
my lady beside me.
