the harvest can begin
tractors at the ready
but not before pastures
receive a planting
as sparrows feed their
young -- accordion mouths
awaiting turns for food
and children prepare for
day’s adventure -- now
ready. Cereal and toast
on the kitchen table
bus at farm road’s edge
faces poking with curiosity
their friend exploding
from his house -- books
and school bag flying.
Life abounds in the rain
and sun when a fire in the
soul turns us to the final
step before a proper harvest
takes place in our lives.

Accordion mouths is absolutely charming. Your work is so succinct and aptly worded. This brought the hymn 'Autumn days when the grass is jewelled' to mind. Words of hope and renewal. Beautiful.
