Why Why Why
when someone cries everyone
assumes it’s due to life’s challenge
and tear-shedders arouse
sympathy but there are many
times when those are tears
of happiness?
When a guardian of beavers
working on a den thinks danger
has entered their domain
takes a mighty plunge
with a splash of urgency
yet momma and poppa are proud
parents knowing their young
one is performing a responsible
task and the thought brings a
furry smile.
Even when a mother deer bubbles
a warning to her young buck
she notices his firm muscles and
quickness of step as he
prances to her side where she
nuzzles him.
So too do humans show pride and
love in their nurtured young knowing
young prints will join others in a
journey to far-off places.
