Funeral for a feeling
Death of desire
Affection exhausted
Love expired.
Any last wishes?
God only knows what they are now –
Or what they were then.
A cremation?
No longer possible –
All fire extinguished.
A burial then?
Deep in a limestone cave
In the icy Ionian Sea.
A eulogy?
A beautifully bleak lament
Sung by the Reverend Leonard Cohen.
An after-life?
One among the heavenly host
Of dearly-departed lover-ghosts.
A resurrection?
Love goes on –
Or will with another.
A floral tribute?
No flowers please
Just a donation – to the British Heart Foundation.
Funeral for a feeling
Death of desire
Affection exhausted
Love expired.
