a place I never knew

Silence swills in
early morning lamplight,
catching fog in rays
as gulls patrol the
cobbled streets; an
oversight in fading
darkness.
Streets filling with
muffled ‘mornings’
caught beneath scarves;
half open eyes look
to open shops, chiming
with treasured trinkets,
as sea air breezes in.
Waves wake weary
travellers; break
constantly against
the shore and then at
once subside, leaving
behind their deepest
secrets for discovery.
Recovery of shells; to
listen in on conversations
of the oceans endless past.
Love lost here has
been uncovered as,
words over cups of coffee
were left muttered,
so that only longing
ears could hear.

love this Sam.
Perhaps 'left' instead of 'went' would be better

I enjoy how this makes me sit
I enjoy how this makes me sit on the outside, a stranger. Perhaps ‘as words over’ would be more clear.
