When I was a log
When I was a log I used to lay on the ground and folk would trip over me. The leaves would nestle around me in the woodland floor. The earwigs would eat my bark.
I rotted
I became one with mycelium and mycorrhizal abounded. Connected and feeding. Then I became soil.
The young sapling took me up in through their roots and I became tree once more. With limbs. And branches and families of twigs.
Squirrels sit in me. Birds roost in my boughs.
The seasons pull me hither and yon.
