Verb or noun?

Which will it be?

It makes a world of difference to me...

 

The first, a distinct creative act

A willing to be

As yet imperfectly conceived

 

The second, a prison of someone's making

That defines and confines

Instead of refining

 

Verb or noun?

You get to choose - 

Choose wisely, my friend

Lest you lose yourself  along the way

In my life I've had the same trouble in deciding if the word career has been a noun or a verb.
