Time Lords
By Schubert
- 1366 reads
Time Lords
They wear their power in majestic comfort and
stand patiently by the trapdoor.
Two graceful captives harnessed to time and place.
They are of the plough and the harrow
and open pasture, but now they furrow a different time.
A time of machines and of haste.
You sense their blinkered strength; their liveried innocence
in Herculean tasks.
Yet they are at ease.
Two Time Lords trapped in the wrong century,
delivering steel kegs in order to please.
But why are they here?
They are of another world
Another memory
Another ember
Surely, some mistake has been made, some portal unclosed.
Send them back from whence they came
so we may remember them as they were;
with dignity and pride.

Nice one Schubert.
They are indeed anachronistic. Where I live there are very often ploughing matches. These wonderful occasions provide a real glimpse into what once must have seemed commonplace and unremarkable. There are farriers and smiths and people with lurchers and retrievers all together providing a great atmosphere. Perhaps the Time Lords will still be here long after the last ploughshare has rusted back into the ground.
I like how you have formatted this poem margined to the right with the title centred - that's something that I've never managed to work out how to do. One edit suggestion that I'd make is to remove thee inverted commas from 'Time Lords' (Time Lords) the capitalisation id enough to draw the distinction that you seek.
Good poem. Welcome to ABCtales too.

Oh, I'm glad that we do see
Oh, I'm glad that we do see them, occasionally. As a tourist attraction?
Liked your verse. Rhiannon

excellent poem, some lovely
excellent poem, some lovely wordings here 'liveried innocence' and appreciated the sentiment, the throwback to another time&the abstract otherworldy conveying of it in lines like ' furrow a different time' and particularly 'some portal unclosed' :-) gracefulness of the words mimics the content
