A beautiful premonition

The cold
winds blow blue ice through the trees
What wonder
and excitement are conceived on days like these
The
temperature is below the freezing degree
What a
beautiful sight this is to see
The children
bundled up outside, playing freely
I sit back
on the porch, smoking, in the breeze
My beautiful
lover lying ever so gently
With her
head on my shoulder, humming sweetly
Wrapped in
her mother’s quilt
That was
built when she was a baby
Just look at
how far we’ve come since that fateful day
When I first
lay eyes upon you in the dim gray
Lights of
that smoky pub on the corner of Weatherly
You smile so
bright as we drank down our whiskey
You’re such
a beautiful mind; I had to have you with me
As years go
by, and we age, and we grey
I think of
all the joys we’ve had along the way
Our children
now grown living down by the sea
The crooked
little house we bought in our twenties
So ‘cheers’
to a long life of happiness and tears
To all the
ups, the downs, and the fears
For all of
the ones that said we would never make it
Look at us
now, stronger than ever, unshaken
