Letters To Maggie

Oh sweet Maggie
Their heavy boots
fall down
In our quiet Irish
town
Bringing suffering
Don't you fear
For I hear that lone
bell's call
And I know it's time
for all
To raise arms
to our enemies walls
Don't you forget me,
belle
No don't fare thee
well
I will be back in a
year
Through cannonball
roar as the rain pours down
I sharpen my axe and
walk to the edge of town
This oppression has
lit a flame of hate and fury
But I still think of
my Maggie
It is for her that I
will fight
And I'll die if the
time is right
For God to have me,
but don't fare thee
well
Oh Maggie, one day
this war will end
Then we will be
together again
How I miss the touch
of your skin
My heart longs for
you sadly
It's been two long years of fears and bloodshed and tears. The screams in my ears telling me
they're yelling me to run for the hills. Find a way back to where I lost my
track and finally joyfully wrap my arms
around you tenderly, and kiss you, belle. Then we can be well.
The stars are out
tonight
Covered in smoke and
blood stained fright
It seems we will
never end this fight
Oh I pray that soon
we will see the light
I think of you there
Singing by the old
oak tree
Picking flowers just
for me
How I wish that I
could be….with you Maggie.
