Today is a rather average day. Yesterday, I went on a guided rafting
trip on the Rogue. This was not much fun as our guide was incompetent.
I've realized why I don't like many extreme sports. It's not the danger
itself. It's the fact that macho types go into them with so little
organization or method. An almost military order is called for in
dangerous situations. Our guide failed to give us methodical
instructions and was rather annoying. Luckily, I made it out
alive.
A few days ago, I went to a Shakespearean art show. It was quite
interesting. Most of the art was some sort of response to a
Shakespearean line and, more generally, to a specific play. Many of the
works were beautiful and very much in harmony with the plays. One
abstract piece was a response to Titus Andronicus and particularly
struck me. It was a large dark canvas but in the middle there was an
ellipse with bright swirled colors. In my first summer at SOU, I had a
pretty good time. I had long hair and was enjoying life, by and large.
During this time, a friend and I went to see Titus Andronicus and
enjoyed it immensely. This piece brought me back to that time.
