A Few Suggestions

I am aware that I am a single mind and, in truth, a mind more fit
for a student's life than for teaching others. Nonetheless, I have
spent the better part of my life reading and contemplating the world,
from the history of Poland to the diverse species of primates. The age
being what it is, I've decided to lay out a few suggestions for the
reformation of our world society, with particular emphasis on the
American society I've lived in.
Education
It is necessary that our schools adapt drastically. In the
maths and sciences, the emphasis should be on applied forms and the
development of logical thinking skills in the student.
Unfortunately, an incredible amount of arrogance and
illogical thinking has found a home in the teaching of these subjects.
Bringing strategy games, such as chess and go, into the classroom would
be a fun and effective way to teach spatial reasoning.
In recent decades, science and math have been prized
over other forms of learning. This trend needs to be reversed and
fields such as history, art, philosophy and literature need to be
restored to places of importance. Humanity will require well rounded
thinkers to make the difficult decisions that are coming up.
The Economy
It is necessary that we should stop the massive production
of luxury products that characterizes our economy. When I say luxury
products, I'm not just referring to Porsches and champagne but rather
to a whole gamut of waste. The American transportation system, in which
every primate must have his personal ton of steel, is a gross example.
Also egregious are the resources we spend on the maintenance of
household pets. I say this reluctantly, being very fond of my
roommate's border collie puppy.
I should also point out that the term "free enterprise,"
so revered by so many, has become a meaningless term. Any huge, modern
economy must have a governmental structure and ours most certainly
does. Furthermore, the corporate authorites that control our economy
abound in shortsightedness and inefficiency. The reformation of our
economy must not be hindered by the worship of capitalist
cows.
The Environment
Perhaps no modern issue is as pressing as the environment.
It is truly depressing how slow the authorities have been to realize
the grim effects of unchecked human development. Politically,
therefore, I am a fervent environmentalist.
Speaking to like-minded people, however, I would
warn against the fretfulness that so often accompanies environmental
awareness. Nature has brought us to this time of drastic change and
destruction and surely the world will adapt.
The End Justifies The Means
I would advise those who seek to reform our society
to not be excessively scrupolous. There are changes that need to be
made for the sake of humanity. Kindness is good but has no place on the
field of battle. Democracy is good but is only one possible form of
society and not a form designed for times of rapid and bloody
change.
Above all, considering the gruesome times we are entering,
we all need to seek hope and guidance from the divine force of the
universe.
