Her Answer Was No

​Her answer was no,
And it ripped my heart in two,
I tried to act cool.

I waited a year,
Thought chances might be better,
Apparently not.

God, why was I fooled?
You kept me on bated breath,
Then sucked it all dry.

I accepted it,
Even prayed for her future,
How did it go wrong?

Feelings hadn't changed,
But she sure did change somewhat,
I'd better move on.

God I still trust you,
